This year’s Pujiang Innovation Forum will get closer to entrepreneurs, highlight the young power in innovation, explore futuristic visions and go more international in pursuit of integrated development.
The event, with the theme of “New Vision and New Future of Science and Technology Innovation,” will run from Friday to Sunday.
There will be an opening ceremony and plenary, four special sub-forums and 11 themed sub-forums.
Guests will have in-depth discussions on today’s hot topics such as how to turn brilliant ideas into profitable products, leading innovation projects such as Human Microbiome Project and deeper cooperation in China’s Yangtze River Delta region and Belt and Road countries.
One of the highlights of this year’s forum is that it will listen to enterprises to get to know what they need for innovation and create a communication platform for entrepreneurs and policymakers.
In addition, young talent across the globe will be invited to share their ideas and discuss future possibilities. Scientists and experts from home and abroad will introduce cutting-edge technologies and predict how they can change the world, including in economic, social and urban development and other sectors.
Aiming to be a scientific and technological version of the Davos World Economic Forum, the Pujiang forum is more international this year. Besides its “science stars,” it has also invited reputable research institutes and leading laboratories around the world to take part with a view to share resources, form cooperation and blaze new trails.
“Shanghai acts as a living room where global technologies are gathered and innovation ideas are exchanged, and the forum is at the center of this living room,” said Luo Dajing, deputy director of Shanghai Science and Technology Commission.
He said the event and the city aim to be where new ideas are born, cutting-edge technologies are unleashed and innovators are brought together.
This year, it will be a citywide science extravaganza.
Besides the Dongjiao State Guest Hotel where the opening ceremony will be held, Shanghai Science and Technology Museum, Shanghai Jiao Tong University and hotels in the city’s innovation engine of Zhangjiang and smart manufacturing base of Lingang are also included as meeting venues.
This year’s forum has invited nearly 150 keynote speakers from 23 countries and regions. Of them, scientists and scholars account for 46 percent, entrepreneurs 39 percent and the rest government officials. Notably, one third are foreign guests.
Big names include Philip Campbell, editor-in-chief of the publishing company Springer Nature, owner of the world’s leading science journal Nature.
Heng Swee Keat, deputy prime minister and finance minister of Singapore, the forum’s country of honor, and Xu Jianpei, deputy director of the province of honor Hebei, will also attend the forum.
Foreign participants include Nirav Shah, a scholar from Stanford University’s Clinical Excellence Research Center, Bernhard Mueller, a member of German Academy of Science and Engineering, and Ali Vahdat, chairman of Iran’s Innovation and Prosperity Fund.
The Chinese participants include renowned scientists such as Wang Jianyu, head of the Shanghai branch of Chinese Academy of Sciences, acclaimed scholars such as Wu Zhiqiang, vice president of Tongji University, and successful entrepreneurs such as Da Shengwei who was just honored at the city’s top science awards.
