On April 2, 2023, the 2023 “AI for Science” Pujiang Innovation Forum was held in Zhangjiang Science Hall. Under the guidance of the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government, the forum was co-sponsored by the Science and Technology Commission of Shanghai Municipality and Shanghai Jiao Tong University and co-organized by Shanghai Center for Pujiang Innovation Forum and Shanghai Zhangjiang (Group) Co., Ltd. More than 700 guests from government offices, universities, research institutes, laboratories, and industrial enterprises attended the event to discuss the development of AI for Science. Zhu Xinyuan, a Standing Committee of the Party Committee member and Vice President of SJTU, presided over the opening ceremony.
The rapid development of artificial intelligence relies on open-source code and open data. High-quality open data has promoted the rapid growth of deep learning algorithms, and the open-source of various algorithms and system frameworks has dramatically improved the efficiency of algorithm development. AI for Science has become a new paradigm of scientific research, which has an immediate and profound impact on physics, chemistry, materials science, biology, and other domains.
The event saw the launch of the “AI for Science scientific data open-source platform”. The platform was built by SJTU and Shanghai Baiyulan Open AI Research Institute to tear down discipline barriers, accelerate scientific discovery, promote artificial intelligence technology as a new paradigm for solving significant scientific problems in fundamental disciplines, and give Shanghai a leading position in the project of AI for Science.
In addition, the “Zhangjiang SJTU Artificial Intelligence Research Platform” was launched at the forum. The platform aims to promote the use of artificial intelligence in basic scientific research and provide help in building the Shanghai Science and Technology Innovation Center.
Artificial intelligence has entered a new era of big data, vast computing power, and large-sized model. Facing the new paradigm of scientific research, it is essential to develop intelligent scientific facilities. As a core functional area, Zhangjiang Science City boasts a globally influential science and technology innovation center. A world-class large-scale scientific facility cluster has taken shape in Zhangjiang.
