The annual Pujiang Innovation Forum will return to the city in May.

This year’s forum will be held from May 24 to 26, with the theme of scientific and technological innovation driving a new vision and creating a new future. Singapore will be the country of honor and Hebei the province of honor, Shanghai Science and Technology Commission said on Friday.

Singapore is recognized as the perfect example of overcoming its limitations like its small land area and lack of natural resources to become the world’s major financial and shipping center.

It ranked in fifth place, surpassing innovative powers like US, Germany and Japan, on the Global Innovation Index 2018 published by the World Intellectual Property Organization.

This year also marks the 29th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relation between China and Singapore. The two countries will seek further cooperation on “smart city,” biological medicine and other fields.

China’s northern province of Hebei is being hailed as an emerging innovation center in China for its strategic plan of integrated development of Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei. It is stepping up efforts in upgrading traditional industries and fostering new industries like information technology, new-energy car manufacturing base among others.

As the province of honor, Hebei will take part in organizing talks and activities during the forum. Also, it will help to facilitate scientific and technological cooperation between Shanghai and Hebei.

The forum was set up in 2008 by the Ministry of Science and Technology and Shanghai government with the aim of building a platform for exchanges on innovation and development. From this year, it will be held in May in Shanghai.
